About Wegovy Injection
What is Wegovy?
In the US or UK, a new injectable medication called Wegovy is offered for weight loss. It
- is safe to take if recommended by a doctor and is for those with a BMI of over 30, or over 27 in some situations.
- It reduces appetite and prevents overeating,
- it is successful in over 80% of users.
- It can result in weight reduction of over 20%.
A prescription-only injectable used for weight reduction is called Wegovy. It is safe to take continuously and should only be taken once a week.
Semaglutide is Wegovy’s active component. Semaglutide is a synthetic substitute for a natural appetite suppressant found in your body.
What is Wegovy Injection used for?
Obesity is treated with wegovy. This indicates that it is intended to assist those who are deemed clinically overweight in their weight loss efforts. It should only be taken with a doctor’s approval and is not intended for general usage as a diet aid.
What is the main use of Wegovy Injection?
Wegovy is primarily used to suppress appetite. Because they are less likely to overeat or violate their diet, people can lose weight more easily with diet and exercise. It is not intended to result in weight loss on its own.
Wegovy active ingredient
Semaglutide is Wegovy’s active component. This is referred to as an agonist of the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor. This implies that it functions similarly to your body’s glucagon hormone, which regulates blood sugar and hunger.
Semaglutide helps manage blood sugar levels and promotes weight loss as part of its diabetes treatment. Diabetes therapy is not intended for Wegovy. The same active component is included in the drug Ozempic, which is prescribed to diabetics.
How does Wegovy work?
Semaglutide, an ingredient in Wegovy injections, simulates the hormones your body naturally releases after eating to help you feel fuller and regulate blood sugar. Watch the educational video “Everything you need to know about Wegovy” for a thorough grasp of the platform. By taking it once a week, you may maintain a consistent amount of semaglutide in your body, which promotes continual feelings of fullness.
How does wegovy help you lose weight?
Like your body normally does after eating, Wegovy works by decreasing your appetite. In doing so, Wegovy makes it easier for you to follow a diet plan by helping you feel filled after consuming less food than usual.
How to use Wegovy pens?
For Wegovy to be successful, you must take it once a week. It is best used in conjunction with a weight-loss strategy that includes exercise and a nutritious diet. In the event that Wegovy is prescribed to you, your dose will be raised every month until the fifth month of therapy, when it will be begun at a reduced level.
How to inject Wegovy (Semaglutide)
Before starting treatment, carefully read the instructions in the patient information leaflet that comes with your Wegovy and follow any instructions from your doctor as well. When you’re ready to try your first dose, follow the steps below:
- Wash your hands.
- Decide on where you want to inject your first dose. You can choose from your lower abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. Once you’ve decided, wash the area you’re going to inject with an alcohol swab or soap and water.
- Check the name and dose of your pen to make sure it contains your prescribed dose of Wegovy. Look through the pen window to ensure the liquid is clear and colourless.
- Remove the pen cap and push a new needle onto the pen. Turn the needle until it is tight. Pull off the outer and inner needle caps when ready to inject or check the flow. Check the flow with each new pen. You do not need to check the flow every time you inject, only the first time you use a new pen. Each pen will provide you with 4 weekly doses when used correctly.
- Turn the dose selector until the dose counter stops, and it shows your prescribed dose.
- Insert the needle into your skin. Ensure you can see the dose counter.
- Press and hold down the dose button until the dose counter shows 0. Keep pressing the dose button with the needle in your skin and slowly count to 6.
- Remove the needle from your skin. Carefully place the outer needle cap onto the needle, before removing the needle from the pen and disposing of it in a sharps bin.
- Place the pen cap back onto the pen and store out of sight and reach of children. The pen can be stored at a temperature below 30°C or refrigerator (2°C to 8°C) away from the cooling element.
Some extra advice:
- Store your injections in the fridge.
- Check your pen before using it in case it’s been broken, like if it’s been dropped.
- Avoid injecting into areas that are bruised, sore, hard, or scarred. Also, be careful not to inject into your muscles or veins.
- Don’t touch the needle cover to avoid accidentally pricking yourself.
- Don’t try and stop the injection halfway through because the needle locks once it starts.
- Make sure you switch up where you inject your Wegovy after each dose.
Is Wegovy good for long term use?
Using Wegovy over the long term to assist with weight management is OK. Using it for an extended length of time does not result in any additional adverse effects. It’s advisable to talk to a doctor about your long-term weight loss goals. Your doctor could advise you to discontinue if your weight falls below the minimum required to be eligible for Wegovy therapy. In addition, your doctor could advise changing courses of medication if you see no improvement.
What happens after your first shot of Wegovy injection?
Your appetite may immediately decrease after your first dose of Wegovy, while some people may take longer to experience the benefits. Additionally, you can have a few minor side effects including nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. As your body adjusts to your new therapy, these side effects may go away.
What is the best time of day to use Wegovy?
Wegovy can be taken with or without meals at any time of the day. It’s up to you when is most convenient, as long as you remember to take it at the same time on the same day.
After taking Wegovy, you are able to operate a vehicle, but you should be mindful of your first reactions to the medication. It is important to ensure that Wegovy does not interfere with your ability to drive safely, as it may produce moderate adverse effects.
Wegovy missed dose
You can take the missed dosage if it was less than five days away; your next dose will be given one week later.
If a dosage is missed for longer than five days, wait (i.e., skip that dose) and take your next dose at the scheduled time on the regular day.
As long as there are more than three days between doses, you are free to switch the day of the week that works best for you when using Wegovy.
You must start again at the lowest strength dose of 0.25 mg per week if it has been longer than two weeks since your last dose.
What happens when you stop taking Wegovy?
There is no chance of addiction or signs of withdrawal when you discontinue your therapy. You should include in this to your goal to maintain your reduced weight since, after you stop using Wegovy, your hunger will return to normal levels.
How effective is Wegovy?
Most users of Wegovy find it to be effective. More than 80% of Wegovy users should anticipate losing more weight than they would have without the app. This therapy might result in weight loss of 20% or more.
How much weight can I lose on Wegovy?
Before Wegovy was licensed for weight reduction, a number of clinical trials known as the STEP trials were conducted to evaluate the medication’s efficacy. Based on the data, after 68 weeks, the individuals dropped, on average, 14% to 17% of their starting weight. This would be equivalent to around 14–17 kg based on a starting weight of 100 kg.
The experiments revealed that Wegovy’s efficacy differed depending on the individual.
- Approximately 7–8% of participants dropped more than 10% of their starting weight.
- Approximately 5–6% of participants dropped more than 15% of their starting weight.
- Approximately 3–4 people out of 10 dropped more than 20% of their starting weight.
These outcomes were noticeably superior than those of the control group, who tried to reduce weight alone with food and exercise and weren’t given any Wegovy.
Important: A diet and exercise regimen should always be followed in addition to using Wegovy®. In the studies, weight reduction was accomplished in this manner.
How long does Wegovy take to work?
By the second or third dose after starting your therapy, you should feel more satisfied after eating. However, as everyone reacts to drugs differently, you may see a tiny increase in speed or decrease in time. Results of Wegovy weight reduction might be seen as soon as 12 weeks after beginning therapy. After six months, if you have not made any noticeable weight loss, you may want to consider modifying your treatment plan.
How much weight do you lose in a month with Wegovy?
It’s difficult to pinpoint the precise amount of weight loss you should anticipate on Wegovy each month. According to studies, you have an 86% probability of losing 5% of your body weight in 68 weeks, or around 15 and a half months. Let’s imagine you weigh 80 kg at beginning and drop 5 kg over a period of 68 weeks. This indicates that you have an 86% chance of losing 4 kg in total, which, when divided by 15 and a half weeks, translates to about a 0.5 kg monthly loss. But a lot depends on your unique situation, such as how well you follow your food and exercise regimen. Dr. Babak Ashrafi, PAINSRELIEFSCENTER Clinical Lead for Service Extension.
Available Wegovy dosages
Wegovy comes in five distinct dosages:
- 0.25 mg
- 0.5 milligrams
- 1 mg,
- 1.7 mg,
- 2.4 mg
In the first month, you will begin on the lowest dosage of Wegovy, and after five months, you will go to the highest dosage. Before going on to the following dosage phase, each one requires at least four weeks. You will need one pen for each dosing step because each pen includes four doses. You’ll need to start using a new pen after using the first four doses of this one.
There are no greater dosages of Wegovy available since a doctor cannot prescribe more than is necessary for patient safety. Furthermore, starting on a higher dose of Wegovy requires prior use of semaglutide injections.
If your physician prescribes Wegovy, they will provide you with explicit
guidelines for obtaining the safest and most effective course of therapy.
You might be allowed to begin therapy at the same dose (0.5 mg) if you’re currently receiving weight-loss injections from another practitioner. In order to ensure that your treatment is not stopped, we are making every effort to maintain stock levels.
How much does Wegovy cost?
Our Wegovy costs presently start at $230.00 for the lowest dose. There isn’t currently a less expensive generic substitute for Wegovy. Since semaglutide’s patent does not expire until 2031, only branded drugs will be accessible up to that point.

Who should not take semaglutide (Wegovy)?
Only if your doctor certifies that Wegovy is safe for you and you are overweight may you use it.
Wegovy is a medication used to help overweight persons lose weight. Persons with a BMI of over 30 or over 27 who have a health issue due to their weight fall into this category. Even if a patient wants to reduce weight while not meeting the criteria for medical obesity, a doctor cannot prescribe it to them.
Because Wegovy isn’t suitable for everyone, a doctor won’t recommend therapy if you
- You intend to get pregnant or you have a severe allergy to any of the substances in Wegovy.
To ensure that Wegovy is safe for you, a physician will inquire about:
- any heart or pancreatic issues
- whether you intend to become pregnant,
Wegovy alternative treatment comparison
Saxenda vs Wegovy
Saxenda and Wegovy operate in nearly identical ways. The one discernible distinction is that Saxenda’s active component, liraglutide, is an additional synthetic hormone that needs to be taken once daily. However, the mode of action of both drugs remains the same: they decrease hunger.
Wegovy or Saxenda are two options you might try initially. After six weeks, if the therapy isn’t helping, you could consider changing to something else. Despite their similarities, drugs may differ in how people respond to them, so one may work when the other does not. The only way to be certain which will work for you is to give them a try. It’s hard to predict which will.
Never use these drugs at the same time. Should you wish to move from one to the other, consult a physician who can assist you in organizing the transfer to prevent taking both drugs concurrently. It takes two months from the time of your last dosage to begin taking Saxenda if you are transitioning from semaglutide (Wegovy or Ozempic). This will lessen the possibility of adverse consequences.
Wegovy vs Ozempic
Ozempic is an alternate term for semaglutide, which is the active component of Wegovy. While Ozempic is exclusively intended to treat type 2 diabetes, Wegovy is given for weight loss in individuals with or without diabetes. Although the doses of the two treatments may differ, they both contain the same active component. Ozempic comes in dosages of 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, or 1 mg.
Wegovy vs Mounjaro
Similar to Ozempic, Mounjaro is another diabetic therapy. It is an injectable that requires a prescription and includes tirzepatide. It is exclusively administered off-label for weight loss and is used to regulate blood sugar in diabetic individuals.
Other medical weight loss treatments and options
Other Wegovy alternatives include:
- Saxenda, a weight loss injection similar to Wegovy but it contains liraglutide and is taken daily
- Mysimba, weight loss tablets that help reduce appetite
- Orlistat, tablets that stop your body absorbing fat
- Xenical, a branded version of Orlistat
There are also diet and exercise and other lifestyle changes which can and should be used alongside medication to promote weight loss.

Conclusion: Is Wegovy right for me?
Wegovy may be a suitable therapy for you if you fit the eligibility requirements and are prepared to stick to a diet and exercise schedule. You must not be allergic to any of the chemicals in Wegovy, be pregnant, or have any pancreatic or cardiac conditions.
Over the course of 64 weeks, if Wegovy is the correct fit for you, you might drop 15% or more of your present body weight.
Frequently asked questions
Is Wegovy the same as Ozempic?
The active component of Wegovy, semaglutide, is also known by the brand name Ozempic. While Ozempic is exclusively intended for those with type 2 diabetes, Wegovy is intended for patients with or without diabetes. Although the doses of the two treatments may differ, they both contain the same active component. Ozempic comes in dosages of 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, or 1 mg.
Is Wegovy stronger than Saxenda?
Neither treatment is ‘stronger’ than the other. Although, Wegovy tends to be more effective overall.
People using Wegovy have a:
- 86% chance of losing at least 5% weight
- 71% chance of losing at least 10% weight

Does Wegovy burn fat?
No. It’s easy to eat less with Wegovy. Your body burns fat to make up the gap when you consume less calories than you burn off during the day.
Do you have to exercise on Wegovy?
Indeed. Wegovy needs to be used in conjunction with a diet and exercise program in order to promote weight reduction. Engaging in physical activity may significantly enhance weight reduction, and Wegovy can reduce your appetite following physical activity.
What happens when you stop using Wegovy?
Your appetite will return to normal levels soon after you finish taking Wegovy. If you are experiencing any negative effects, they should also disappear once your body has finished absorbing Wegovy. After your final dosage, wegovy may take up to two months to fully exit your system.
Do you gain weight back after stopping Wegovy?
You will need to work hard to maintain your new weight because stopping Wegovy will make you feel more hungry. However, you can prevent gaining the weight back if you keep to your diet and exercise regimen.
